if you watch footage of a rejoneador(horseback bullfighter) you will learn that horses can in fact move backwards(or sideways) quite quickly. certainly a hell of a lot faster than things on 2 legs, and weapon reach is very very abstracted. at any rate this seems kind of needlessly complex, and kitin...

Because enough other backgrounds are highlighted Even if you think +1 backgrounds highlighted would be enough to take things over the line from "not too many choices" to "an overwhelming amount of choice", this still has the issue where greyed out backgrounds imply to new player...

Even so, there's inaccurate stuff. ex: Hill Orc should definitely have Gladiator highlighted if Monk is, because Monk is considerably worse(and less simple) than Fi/Gl

It does hurt gameplay because the whole point of monks is they have worse equipment but bonus piety, giving them a great starting weapon is the opposite of that design goal.

If the description of might said what it did it would be mechanically clear. It's just confusing to new players because it's not obvious it adds 1d10 damage, if you are new it seems like it just increases Str by 5(which can then lead you to believe that increasing str by that much leads to huge dama...

Ash would not be that good even if you didn't need curses.

that's sticky flame(or depending on how you argue it, Flame Tongue could be "best" because FE need it to survive the very beginning, then conjure flame #2, but for other starts that find that book it's Conjure Flame then Sticky Flame)

The second part of why it's good is how most enemies that have enough HP to be willing to walk into the flame(sometimes takes a few turns, it's a random roll if they decide to based on their HP) will get demolished by it. You can kill hydras, death yaks, etc like this.

IMO a lot of that comes from conjure flame, which feels like a bit of a cheesy spell to use to its full potential. (Especially because of how enemy AI deals with deciding to walk into damage clouds.)

Dungeonmans has a meteor spell, but in that game you mark a spot for it to come down and it takes a turn to actually arrive.
