Permanent allies have a pretty big problem with taking damage. If they heal: when they take damage, you want to rest up your ally as well as yourself. Player resting is already merely the least-bad of several bad options, so adding more resting in this fashion isn't improving anything. Additionally...

I think door dancing is a much bigger problem. monster opens door, you close door, monster opens door, you close door. repeat until your HP is full. that takes forever, but solves lots of problems. it shouldn't.

@dynast: thing is, aptitudes are not THAT important. there's a lot of EXP in the game, and if you can invest just a little in fighting, for example, to get beefy, that means you have a lot of EXP left to put into spells. @duvessa: aren't troll claws stronger than forms? do they stack with any of them?
