Re: YAVP: MiFi of Makhleb with ridiculous luck

Congrats. I have a CIP right now who is a minotaur which bought the same armor, he's an abyssal knight using pole-arms and a triple crossbow as backup. Anyway, I made the mistake of putting some of my level up stats into dexterity, when you really need to max your strength to take full advantage of ...

Re: Proposal: rename Djinni to Efreet, give rot immunity

However efreet are always evil so you shouldn't be able to worship any of the good gods if you changed names. To confuse matters more, "genie", "jinn", and "djinn" are all the same thing and no one here in the west associates djinn with granting wishes, even though the...

Re: Proposal: rename Djinni to Efreet, give rot immunity

"The Qur'an mentions that the jinn are made of a smokeless and "scorching fire"" - Third sentence of the relevant wikipedia article. e: "And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. " - Qu'ran:15:27 Ok, then read the Wikipedia article on the Ifr...

Re: Proposal: rename Djinni to Efreet, give rot immunity

I'm glad someone else noticed this flavor oversight. A Djinn is associated with Air, not Fire. According to what? Do you have ANY idea how many different variations there are on 'vampire' in fiction?? How about 'dwarf'? 'Troll'? 'Gargoyle'? Do you also want to complain about how longswords should a...

Re: YASD: DsDK^Yred Things fall Apart on Zot:5

I've gotten two characters to close to winning using Yredelemnul, and I think I've learned a few things along the way. For one, Yred is very strong early to mid-game, so much so that it is easy to become complacent by the time you get to Zot, your minions don't gain power as you do, so you will have...

Re: YASD - MiFi via loss of brains

In this case YASD is quite literally correct. Any piece of equipment with an intelligence bonus would have saved you (or a potion of cure mutation). In your case you should have tried on the two unidentified rings on the off-chance that one of them happened to be ring of intelligence. Possibly even ...

imao, you've trained too many skills and it can make game harder. :D focusing would make game easier! Every ability I took made the game easier in some way, not every situation had the same answer which meant different skills were important at different times. And really even with skill spread I ma...

Re: Traps skill is gone

Huh, I would have preferred they added to the utility of the traps skill, maybe had ways to use the trap skill to actually make traps (say from parts of disarmed traps). Still, it's better not to have the trap skill than the way the trap skill is currently implemented.

Re: What Melee class should a Draconian be?

One who can cast spells. Seriously, draconians have no armor penalties because they have built in armor. They also have good health, and OK weapon skills, but not so good that you wouldn't be better off with another species if you just wanted to fight and not cast. Since draconian aren't better at a...

Re: Are crossbows much worse than longbows?

I think it depends on the species as well. Centaurs are obviously best with bows, halflings with slings, and minotaurs are probably the best crossbow users. Technically kobolds have better xbow proficiency, but the rest of their skills don't synergize as well with strength based xbow attack like the...

Re: Proposal: Remove the haste spell

Another way to approach the issue is to add dimensional anchor as a translocational spell, basically allowing some monsters to inflict stasis on players. On top of giving it to some monsters, you can put it in spellbooks for warpers to transcribe, giving that branch of magic more tools to work with....

YAVP: DrCj 4 rune win

This is my second win and the first one since I think version .7, which I won with a mountain dwarf fighter of Nemelex Xobeh (funny given the name of my boots). I'm really liking some of the combos for this character which made melee combat pretty viable even late game (for my last conjurer who died...
