New Ubuntu terminal unusable?

Just did a clean install of Ubuntu LTS 16.04, coming from LTS 14.04. While in the old version the default terminal worked just fine to play DCSS, in the new version DCSS is unplayable. Lots of stuff are apparently just not visible; map features like walls are not retained, in the ability screen only...

Nah, its unnecessary. A +8 speed battleaxe is a very fine weapon indeed, should make the game easy enough anyway and the only thing you'd get from switching to vamp is that the game will take less long, youll have to retreat less often. Its still a huge waste of XP to switch - playing conservatively...

No clue about disc of storms/V5, but you have also have high evo+elemental evocers which give you a ton of staying power in form of damage/allies. I would still probably not try to fight at the entrace.

Certainly good enough for at least a single scroll - any hide armour is an improvement over robes for TR. Then see how playing feels, if you still feel atrociously squishy dump more into it, or - if you are feeling realllllyy lucky - poke into depth if you get a fire dragon /ice dragon.

Loot is insane. Stumbling upon it in E:1, I got in the main chamber armour of dragon king+glaive of guard, two randart rings, a randart amulet, multiple misc items, and good potions (haste/heal).

Amulet of Wind is kinda not very useful for you, anything else'd be better.

Absolutely curse a second ring, 14% (yellow) miscast tornado is fine and will go down further very soon.

Its criminally that you havent maxed dodging yet.

Honestly I play so many Octopodes that I dont have a good feel for how often cloak of invis drop. But it feels like whenever I do start something else up Crazy Yiuf has one or it just lies around on D:5.

Wasn't aware of that discussion. Removing ecovable invisibility altogether is a can of worms I especially did not want to open, thus a proposal thats relatively neutral to status quo.

(I think there is something to be said for having rare evocable invis, mostly fun arguments)

@bcadren I have issues wearing heavy armour because suddenly everything hits me - hunger/draining/acid attacks, lightning bolts, crystal spears. EV based chars have other problems, but not getting to -20 corrosion in the blink of an eye.

The str-3 is shit, you'd need to swap your +5str for it, making it a lot harder to cast spells, and also giving you a net deficit or at best even trade in defensive capabilities.

Well in practice heavy use of auto explore is very noticeable even on gods with slow piety decay (on weak chars with long resting times). Fast piety decay is an even stronger dis-incentive to use autoexplore. Thats a bit at odds with the whole avoid-tediousness philosophy. Not sure what to do about ...

While it can be tempting to try to not cripple yourself too much with many minor saccs that means the healing/jump/wrath come that much later online, when the worst of the game is already over. Because in an emergency you cant zap all the AoE wands you have. And later in the game you cant zap tele/heal/hasting if you ran out of mana.
