I get that the theme is for the spell to be used in open spaces, but currently it feels very limited even in moderately sized openings. I have a pretty specific suggestion: Change the requirement of not touching any wall to not touching any wall orthogonally, it should give the spell some more space...

If this change were made, I think the poison cap would need to be removed as well, unless the goal is to have players use Radiance to cap poison stacks, then flee while waiting for those stacks to slowly chew through the hit points and regeneration of sturdier monsters, before repeating the process...

Hitting everything in LOS with a single click wasn't convenient enough?

Every other AOE spell effects the caster if they are in the area of effect.

Why aren't there powerful monsters that cast spells like firestorm and glaciate to attack the player? Why aren't there powerful monsters with debuffs like screen wide slows or silence? there are though... Either uniques or monsters with random spellsets like panlords. So all in pathetic quantities....

Delaying something like this because Trog has one ability twith minimal game impact that is affected by it is rather silly.

The change is something that is completely in line with Crawls design goals of eliminating tedium and should happen.

Trog can get some other fluff ability any time.

You left out another pro of firestorm, the high damage. Ignition does calc_dice(3, 10+pow/3) damage per explosion, or about 3d(3.3+pow/9). Fire Storm, on the other hand, does calc_dice(8, 5 + pow), or about 8d(0.63 + pow/8). At 100 power, that's over twice the damage from Fire Storm (56 vs 24). So ...
