While statue form occassionally could be useful for a troll, I think mostly when you have not found a good dragon armor. I would just train armour skill for gda next time.

It's just a personal opinion, but I do not think Formicid is easy with Chei (compared to other races with Chei), as while you cannot haste anyway, you also cannot teleport or blink. Step from time needs lot of invo and costs a lot. Tm is also not the easiest chei starts, as it is quite XP demanding....

Well, I could not have quaffed cancellation since I was a mummy. I also teleported, and it did not helped. Maybe it was too slow due to the orb, or I was landed badly.

While I am not sure, I think that the pan lord hasted up, and he was faster than me in the first place. So haste also does not guarantee anything.

Actually it was petrification, so I had time to act. Also, it's only chaos attack that could bypass my MR, so it does not apply to other forms. I guess I should not have been adjacent to the pan lord, that is the design intent.
