Any attempt to confuse the knight or warriors would probably confuse me as well, and running around confused with priests smiting me didn't seem like an attractive plan. Note that this "shadow monsters" feature is extremely useful especially for monsters or uniques, which you don't feel like beating at the moment.
You'll know what I mean by the first time you'll be XL14 and meet Boris or Mara at Swamp:4.

An orc knight and 4 orc warriors were waiting and apparently very awake right next to the stairs. My only option was running back down the stairs um, i think another option for you would be to evaporate confusion on those orcs... Not quite. The resulting meph cloud has only so much chance to confus...

Of course then you also have to deal with the problem every Che worshiper has - getting cornered and having no way to outrun anything. I tried a SETm of Chei, and found a great way to replace running - semicontrolled blinks. Of course, you have to be that lucky to find a ring of cTele and a spellbo...

Ettins do 45 damage per attack, and get two per turn. This means that if they get a double pulse and land 3 hits, your elf is toast. In the mathematical sense, it sounds so. However in practice, I can't recall any one-handed weapon with attack delay higher than (or even equal to) 140%, and these get minimum delay of 70% anyway.

I assume that the monster, disguised as that giant orange brain, was in fact something that can mutate you as well.

If you start a class with a god, Temple will spawn on D:4.
If you start a class without a god, either the Temple will spawn on D:7, or it will not contain an altar of the god you want to worship.

At this moment, I'm playing an SpBe going long blades, when I meet Blork the orc. After beating the living crap out of him, his weapon is IDed as a +4,+5 long sword of slicing. My damage output jumped up quite a lot :).

For the record, in the current game I had Saint Roka, Roxanne, Donald, Polyphemus and Nergalle on Shoals:4. Cleared them, and after a few minutes, on D:18, Nikola, Norris and Mara within approx. 30*30 squares.
