Re: List your favourite builds

Spriggan VM is one of the best for early game survivability, and more importantly, it finally taught me that Crawl is less about being a heroic badass and more about being paranoid and RUNNING AWAY from things that are too scary for young (D lvl 4-9) characters to beat.

Re: Staff of Olgreb

If you invoke Olgrb, it does a Toxic Radiance (basically, poisons everything onscreen). The real draws of Staff of Olgreb are the free poison resistance (actually pretty useful in Snake, even for a warrior build) and the boost it gives to poison magic (which will be useless to you since you're a Tro...

Midgame Spriggan Vm advice needed

I have a Spriggan Venom Mage character who is Lvl. 14 with w stats of STR 11 (with a +5 Strength Ring), Int 18, and DX 18. He has cleared out Hive and Orc and is currently on lvl. 6 of the Lair. This character (aside from the normal Spriggan "run like hell and Mephitic things) strategy was VERY...

Re: What in Crawl isn't fun?

If you remove Hive entirely, you'd have to increase the generation rate of bee vaults if you want Spriggans to remain remotely viable. I pretty much needed the Hive in my current Spriggan run. Also, it does make a useful stash location. Good to hear that 0.8 mummies are more viable, but in 0.7 and b...

Re: What in Crawl isn't fun?

Early deaths in general, but death by poison in particular. Mummies. Characters that can literally only win by scumming. Its okay to give people who really want to grind aeons an option, but Mummies are so horrible that they literally drink the fun out of the game. Other gimmick classes (Spriggans, ...

Most dangerous uniques (minus Sigmund)

Who do you think are the most dangerous uniques in the early/mid game, excluding Sigmund? My picks: Menkaure. Immunity to Mephitic Cloud can make for some VERY bad situations if you're fighting him in conjunction with a horde and you have nowhere to run to easily. My best hope (if I don't have power...

How could a felid put the hat on his own head without proper thumbs? People like putting clothes on pets, that doesn't mean they can put on clothes themselves...

Re: More non-demonic Summonings - Lead the Holy Crusade

These spells seem more "neutral" than "holy" (at least I don't think gold/quicksilver dragons are "holy" in Crawl), but Summon Dragon is an AWESOME idea.... and, if done right, it could give draconians an additional usability gimmick at higher levels if they had some so...

What exactly is "Gozag"? The only new god I found so far in 0.8 was Ash.

I saw a corrupted altar the first time I got to the temple in 0.8 trunk and thought it was a bug at first. How often does the corrupted temple spawn?

Proper Yred use

I've tried using Yred with several different character types, but end up getting frustrated most of the time. Yred seems like he'd be useful on paper, but the zombies are often too slow and weak to fight off living opponents effectively, you don't get good pets until you've gained lots of piety, and...

Re: Halflings

I wonder if Halflings should have an innate mutation resist (resist 1? 2?). It would kind of go with the flavor established in Lord of the Rings, where the Hobbits were chosen to bear the One Ring because they were most resistant to its power. It would be a useful power to have against the malicious...

Re: Underlying design ideas endgame.

TSO worship seems to be rearloaded in favor of doing dangerous endgame areas with lots of demons and undead. Perhaps balance the regular monsters with more demons, or give more non-demonic and undead creatures the "evil" flag?

Halflings

Since the game seems to be developing more distinct and esoteric classes as it goes through development (Vampires, Deep Dwarves replacing gnomes, Cats) it seems weird that Halflings remain as a choice. They have almost nothing going for them to make them a viable choice! They are a small agility bas...
