Sword of power is IMO totally not worth it. It can easily get you killed. I'd say continue with shield + M&F. As for magic - is up to you. You could learn swiftness, or blink for some additional escape options. Repel missiles is IMO not that important if you are planning to go with heavy shields...

This is the best time to switch to trunk, it has 3 new OP races and it would be a sin not to check them out before they get rebalanced/removed

Well there are downsides to this spell - some gods disapprove of it. Trog and good gods are obvious, but Oka doesn't like it as well (let your allies die that is).
