The bad news is that GDA is actually pretty awful. However, polying slugs into dragons for dragon hide in general can be nice, assuming you can handle the dragon.

Re: How to? (in an optimal fashion)

1) If you don't have a fast way to kill fiends, don't go into extended. rN+++ with 2 hand weapon is good enough. Well, the typical scenario is the following: I am confidently strolling down Pandemonium and see a field at the edge of my line of sight. By the time I get to it, I usually get tormented...

Re: Award for killing Unique Hell/Pan lords

The way it's set now, I personally have no motivation to ever kill one of the pan/hell lords other than during the tournies for my 40 pts. This is precisely because the turns spent killing them lowers my score significantly more than killing them raises it, and the only reason I bother doing extende...

Tactics for Ninja'ing the Orb

Lately I've been ninja'ing the orb a lot instead of actually plowing through the lungs. It's nice for getting a bit more speed on high score games, or just downright avoiding threats on weaker characters. I successfully pulled it off on a few chars (SpCK^Xom, DrWr^Zin, DDFE^TSO, FeAK^Lucy) but have ...

I would make that switch 10 times out of 10. A +2/+12 exec axe is a ludicrously good weapon, and you have an excellent apt as Minotaur even after cross training is done.

I have done far less appealing switches at later levels and have never once regretted it.

Not gonna lie, scythe of curses was really really good the one time I found it (on a winning NaAM on a streak). Even though I was Oka, it was amazing. +13/+13 makes up for a lot, even on a scythe. As for your general idea, I don't think all unrandarts need to be good. Maybe you don't use the singing...

You use lots of buffs, random teleport until you are close to the orb, pick up the orb, random teleport until you can escape. It's really not that hard. I've been doing this lately too. Only death was when tele brought me right into 5 orbs and a lich that summoned a shadow fiend right away. Worked ...

Re: Necromancy changed to warmage background

It's more that starting wiz spells give an early start on spell schools that are good for offense (fire, air, conj), in addition to being nice support spells. Necromancy provides charms.

Re: Necromancy changed to warmage background

I certainly think of necromancy more as a support spell school than an offensive spell school. The most regularly useful necromancy spells for me are things like regen, DD, Borg, lichform. Outside of early pain/vamp drain I can't think of many games where I used any necromantic spells as a main form...

Nowhere did he suggest we change the name from "Necromancer" to "War Mage". He was just suggesting we make it more of a warrior mage background (grouped with skald, warper, etc on the starting menu), rather than being a "pure" caster class. I agree that necromancers are...

On another site I frequent they set up a PayPal system that you could use to donate. No clue how hard it was to set up.

Anyways, probably worth considering! It's one thing to generously give time and effort for free to make crawl as great as it is, and quite another to also be financing it.
