Re: Music and Sound In-Game

I'm a band director. It's a 50+ hour a week job. That being said, I don't have a ton of free time for this project. However, it's been on my mind since I started this thread. I'm still working on pieces that will go into this, as well as worrying about sound effects. One small compliction - I know t...

Young Player: Advice?

I was using a TeCo. I don't know what the normal spell-memorization order is for this class, nor do I know the normal ways of divying up skill points or adding to Strength, Intelligence, or Dexterity. I don't always know when to take risks for ID'ing unknown items, and am especially cautious with th...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game

Sorry for the several month hiatus. Here's another track for you: https://soundcloud.com/corvett/background-music-for-dungeon I'm just going to be uploading things as I can. I think I should be a lot more useful in the summer. I am sure the project will die without many interested people, so I'll do...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game

Hey! Sorry I've been gone. I'm actually a music teacher. I just got married, which was a whirlwind, and have been searching for jobs this summer. I'll contribute more soon in the next week, if I can, and that comprehensive list will be a great guide. Sorry, I was sort of feeling like this was gonna ...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game

re: the title music: Seems a little optimistic, given what lies ahead? https://soundcloud.com/corvett/dcss-title-dark This is what the title music will cross-fade into as the user goes through the character selection menus. It's darker and more ominous. I was sort of inspired by Majora's Mask's int...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game?

Ok, here's my stab at Title screen music: https://soundcloud.com/corvett/title-screen-dcss My intention from here is to have another piece that follows the exact same structure that crossfades in (and this one, out), as the player goes further in his character selection details going into the game. ...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game?

You're in luck - I also have a patch that does a great job approximating the sounds of different types of "hitting" - cardboard, wood, metal, glass, etc. I'll get some renders up. Can you edit the spreadsheet? I was having some problems with it. I'm not sure what to do to make it work. I'm...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game?

I feel like this project needs a master list of what we need, and where we've uploaded everything. I'll be honest, I'm really bad at DCSS and have never made it very far. I'd greatly appreciate if we all brainstormed and filled in the "needs" as best as possible, fleshing out as large a li...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game?

I can get the sounds now. Freesound has to moderate/review all sounds before they allow them to be up. Try again now that it's been 10 hours.

I went back and listened with a fresh set of ears. I feel like they're too high pitched. I'm not sure.

Re: Music and Sound In-Game?

The comment about fountains gives me an idea that we should have a watery/bubbly ambient loop that can play when fountains are in LOS. We could do something similar for other environmental features, e.g. lava. The fountains loop would blend in nicely to this temple track for temples that have fount...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game?

Ok, I have one track finished. I was sure I would do sound effects first, but the inspiration just came for this one. Here is a link: https://soundcloud.com/corvett/stillness I was inspired by the vault that is a Temple of various shrines surrounded by water. If there are any vaults in which this wo...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game?

Puredata is written in C, compiles on at least most of the platforms Crawl supports, and has a BSD-style license so it at least looks totally compatible to me, but someone with slightly more knowledge in that area would have to comment. Awesome. I'm totally interested in writing out some environmen...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game?

Ok. Can someone work with me on what the triggers in the script would look like? I'm open to generating sound effects, and can work on that tonight, actually. I've done quite a bit with procedurally generated audio in Puredata; if there's any way to work with raw sound in whatever programming enviro...

Re: Music and Sound In-Game?

I'm checking out the sound mod now. I really like the idea of just doing a sound pack of sound files that the game would access. Yeah, my first priorities would be subtle sounds to make the UI sort of click more (just small pops and clicks as you hover over buttons, click buttons, etc. Nothing obtru...

Music and Sound In-Game

I'm a composer with limited experience in sound design and sound effect design. When I started playing this game, I instantly noticed the lack of sound. I'd love to incorporate sound into the game, or even just into my own copy. Should I come up with audio files for the game to load, or use somethin...
