While I disagree with the OP, there might be ways to make the brand more interesting/feel less unfair. What if, on each hit, you got a stack of translocational energy. 0-2: blink or damage. 3-4 stacks: blink, tele, -player tele, or medium damage. 5+ stacks: blink, -player tele, high damage, or banish.

I managed to crush V5 and do pretty well in the Abyss, so I'm at 4 runes. I've never done the hells, and I loathe Slime, so I think I'm going to just Zot and hopefully win.

I'm kinda nervous because I don't have much rF but we'll see

First time I've ever tab killed Saint Roka which was exciting. The only threatening things that have happened in a long time were a dream sheep + barbs situation and an entropy weaver that I didn't notice + petrification, but I manage to tele out both times. DCSS is literally the only old-school roguelike I've ever enjoyed.

I find ghosts really fun, yet fully agree they are TERRIBLE designs.

I think a genericized option would be nice: have a template for each skill, make a ghost based on the player's highest skill, scale it's stats/spellset based on DL.
