I think people would just swap rings two times, carrying x2 amount of those jewelry. ...Or would never use them. Some lazy players may do that instead, having resistances from aux and body or insane randarts. I think you cannot assume that player always faces just a single type of elemental attack....

For the record I believe the suggested change can result in less swaps when you have just a single source of rF+/rC+ because suggested 25% damage reduction is less valuable than current 50% damage reduction.

Of course you didn't reach 27 spellcasting, it wouldn't allow you to spam level 9 spells in that version so it had very low priority.
Also you don't need 27 spellcasting, level 9 spell costing 4 MP (spellcasting 15 is even a bit low for level 9 spell) is already OP.

According to FSIM a single +3 slaying ring will often times do more damage than the offhand punch (which makes since but it appears offhand does slightly better for really low EV monsters). Formicid is a good race for fighter background since you don't need to think about "will I use 2handed weapon or a shield" and you can often fight 1 on 1 (where shield is optimal) due to digging ability.

I prefer paralysis vs dangerous monsters like Sonja with dagger of chaos/distortion (paralysis lasted up to 100 turns until recent commit), enslavement vs melee brutes like Orc Warrior or Hill Giant, confusion when I am a stabber or the target is near water/lava.

Right, HP + speed is everything. You cannot die on D1 as Tr/Og/Ce/DD/HO/Mi/Dg/Dr/Gh/Sp/Fe as melee background unless you literally have no room to run to.

Edit. I wouldn't train Charms. Get more Fighting/LBl first IMHO. Also enchant aux armour.

I don't like Fedhas for casters. They don't have problems with early game, they have problems in Lair branches, where mushrooms don't help much. Also having permanent stationary allies makes retreating to restore MP a bad idea. Kiku is fine but it means you must train Necromancy which is boring when...

This is overpowered. Maybe get a special bonus for first skill you reach 27 levels in? Something like rF+/rC+ for Fire/Ice, AC+3 for Earth, intrinsic RMsl for Air, +1 base damage for weapon, +5% HP for Fighting, +3 AC for Armour, +3 EV for Dodging, a rod for Evocations, Camouflage mutation for Steal...

Veh is the best god for pure caster indeed. It's just pure caster being inferior to hybrid.

Current mechanic is the best. Making it more realistic would result in bad gameplay where you would need to stop attacking monster with melee and finish it with wand to get Evocations trained or equip buckler before the kill.

I am pretty sure you cannot train Conjurations without corresponding spells memorized in last stable (0.18.1). If it was changed in trunk, I hope it requires pressing * first in m screen.

Your linked example has you surviving on a 34% chance against prince ribbit, after successfully charming a wyvern, orc warrior, and centaur.
