Just finished playing a Demigod Transmuter through Pan and Hell (died in a Zig) without top-shelf attack spells, fighting only in melee, mostly with lich form. Thanks to everyone. I wore that buckler and had it trained enough not to interfere pretty fast. The extra defence was extremely handy, and I was doing most of my endgame fighting in lich form, so it stayed on. Didn't save my transmuted ass in a particularly cruel Zig, but that was entirely my fault.

Unarmed and bucklers?

I have a level 23 Demigod Transmuter pummeling his way through the dungeon. He does all of his damage with bare or transmuted hands. Can he afford to wear a buckler? I can't work out exactly what the penalty is for unarmed, or if it could be mitigated by training.

It's a ridiculously trivial thing, concerning one word of flavour. But... 'knight' just isn't doing it for me. Death Knight sounds good, and works well for Yredelemnul's powers- his worshippers are generally melee monsters trailing a horde of undead monstrosities. Lugonites are something more subtle...
