YAVP: FoAk 3 Rune

Had some really close calls on Vault:5 and Zot:5 but everything else was pretty easy. Zot:5 had at least 5 Orbs of Fire, which seems pretty bogus, but it was exciting. The Formicid is most vulnerable when he cannot run up a set of stairs. I used the Enter the Abyss power to great effect twice. Both ...

Re: CiP: VsAs - What rune?

with those defenses I'm really surprised you're having trouble with a hydra vault. Pick up a long blade of Flaming and you should be able to kill hydras no problem, and even the Lernaean Hydra should die to a round of intense wand-zapping and a few lopped heads (ID your wands, by the way) It's an e...

CiP: VsAs - What rune?

I need to get another rune, but I'm not sure which one. I currently have the Serpentine Rune. I have gone all the way down to the bottom of the Vaults and am ready to get that rune soon. I have also cleared to the bottom of the Swamps, but the rune vault is insurmountable. It has numerous hydras, sw...

This is my 2nd win. The first was with a Gargoyle Fighter. This one felt like a lot more fun. Demonspawn mutations really keep things interesting. Summoning demonic allies was awesome. I think I'll try a character that can cast spells next. Then again, I might just do a Vinestalker Monk. 1445560 Xan...

Below is my character dump. I am going for a 3 rune win. I just cleared the Lair and then went down to Dungeon: 13. I don't have any poison resistance, so I guess I'll go to the Shoals next since I have a Ring of Flight. My question is: What skills should I be working on? Should I continue raising U...

YAVP - GaFi - First Win!

I got my first win! It feels pretty great! I know gargoyles are really powerful, but I still had some close calls, especially on Zot:5. In any case, I'm looking forward to trying playing as a new race. The game seems much easier without item destruction, but I like it better. Dungeon Crawl Stone Sou...

I guess the Demon Whip of Venom just seemed really good because I was just in the Spider's Nest and poison decimated everything.

Re: GaFi - in progress

I'm surprised to hear that everyone is in favor of the CPM. I thought the chainmail's bonuses (+8 / Dex+4 / Slay+3) made it really awesome.

Also, if I switch to CPM should I continue to raise evasion or just focus on armor skill?

I've never one before, but one time I did get the orb. I've got a good character going so I thought I would check in and see if I should be doing anything before I head into the Depths. Here's a few questions I have: *Should I keep wearing the chainmail I have on? The other option is some +12 Crysta...

Re: EV/AC calculcation

Thank you for all the insight and advice. I think the the balancing act between AC and EV is one of the counter-intuitive points of Crawl. I understand how useful dragon armor is, but I don't always get make it. If I am trying to balance AC and EV, does that mean I should avoid heavy armor altogethe...

EV/AC calculcation

I've tried reading the CrawlWiki articles about this several times, but am unable to understand them. I am seeking some practical advice. I am currently playing a GiGl and I have some questions. Is it best to focus on EV or AC? Are the the two mutually exclusive or can I raise my Armor and Dodging s...

Re: GaFi - Level 15 - in progress

With CPA and 11-13 dex even 27 dodging won't give more than 15 EV, totally not worth it IMO, unless you're deep into extended and really have no other things to train (although, obviously, dex should have been advanced on GrFi from the start, it's way better than str points above 20). I got the orb...

Re: GaFi - Level 15 - in progress

Miraculously, I cleared the Snake Pit and the Shoals with few problems. I've never been this far in the game before so I am little daunted. It seems like I should clear the Elven Halls to get items and experience, and then try to get the rune from the vault before heading downward into Zot. Here's t...

Re: GaFi - Level 15 - in progress

It's prompting on unwielding because if you want to wield it again you have to pay the hunger cost. ALso, vampirism is an amazing brand - but a regular mace has really bad damage, and vampirism requires you to actually be doing damage. I see. Thank you for advice, but I misspoke. It's actually a mo...

I just got the Serpentine Rune of Zot. I was gifted a mace with vampirism and a shield with reflection, which turned out to be very useful. I feel pretty good! Thanks for your suggestions. If you want to stick with leather and robes, turn off Armour. Thanks for all the skills advice. Why wouldn't I stick with leather? It seems having a high EV is more useful for me than a high AC. Or am I underestimating the power of AC? I'll see if I can get Swamp Dragon armor. But I wouldn't see a ...

The nice thing with Lair is that escaping trouble is pretty easy, because all the monsters are pretty much melee-based, so you're not getting smited or fireballed while running away. And the difficulty does not increase that quickly, you could probably venture a little deeper. I went down to Lair 5...

Play a Minotaur, I guarantee you'll see a bunch of helmets straight up :-/ This is a documentable fact. I've played a fair share of MiGl and never have I seen so many helmets. Why the heck do you have stealth and stabbing turned off? Kolbolds make excellent sneaks and stabbers! Honestly, the lower levels of the lair might be a little dangerous if you can't surprise hyrdae- berserking with a quick blade might work, but it's riskier. According to something I read, Kobolds ...

My dump file is below. I'm doing pretty well with this character and I don't want to blow it so I'm asking for some advice.
