GDA is perfectly fine for an unarmed character with high str, which a troll of Chei definitely has.
Additionally GDA happens to provide a lot of AC, which a troll has a lot of use for.

If you want to play around then you can use the dark maul, but a large shield of resistance + a good weapon like yours would be much better for a character with no EV like yours.

Yes, although it would be more damage once the spellpower went up.
Nobody uses appendage once they have spider form though, and blade hands is much more worthwhile for increasing your damage output while keeping your gear unmelde than appendage - so it's a nonissue.
