don't equip mundane cloaks/hats/gloves and forget about them for 10 levels though I would like to comment that seemingly pointless cloaks, helmets, gloves, and boots can all give +1 ac even if they're +0 and have no interesting properties. I would say spellcasting skill because that +INT is what determines spell hunger but hunger isn't supposed to be a problem for most races anyway. Just get things to not cost a ration and you're fine really.

It might feel a bit clumsy but if you can get defensive spells like Shroud of G, Repel/Deflect Missiles, and Blink online they could help. Shroud will need to be put on before you go down, but it could give you a turn to get back up and hopefully blink away from anything that followed you.

It's hard to really quantify, but I'll say something along the lines of "before panic sets in." There's like a lull at the start of most abyss entries where you haven't encountered anything horrifying yet, and sometimes you get lucky enough to ride those to an exit before things get danger...

I don't know if it's just me, but when I select a race and then view aptitudes offline the race is highlighted in a nice bright white color. If I do this online however, even though it's a different color, it doesn't look as pronounced. Am I just crazy?
