Re: Translations

I've a couple of questions... The german coordinator (MacChris/chrischameron0) doesn't seem to be active a lot lately. If someone else would add me to the german team, I could get started doing stuff - without being added as a user, I can't access the glossary. And as long as I can't do that, I can'...

This is the kind of thing crawl design tries to avoid.

Re: Web Tiles feature request: 2nd attempt

Not everyone wants to hang out on IRC though - between the bots announcing random stuff, people querying the learnDB, and so on, it's a rather busy place. And if the point isn't some kind of rating system, but to give a quick and dirty distinction in more and less experienced players, it seems fair ...

Re: Can we get rid of this portal entry vault?

I generally use magic mapping to find bazaars and labyrinths. If I happen to have 4 extras laying around I'll probably map a branch ending, but it doesn't really bother me to do endings unmapped. That's about the way I do it, to. And while I've had fun when I guessed at a secret door correctly, vau...

Re: Magus Reactor Golem: player species idea

I think that for full flavour compliance it should completely resist torment and pain-based spells like an undead, but it should no be vulnerable to holy stuff (weapons, scrolls, and so on). That seems rather nice to have. Perhaps there could be elemental vulnerabilities to compensate, maybe rC- an...

Re: Magus Reactor Golem: player species idea

- You must destroy a spellbook to learn ONE spell from it Wait what? You only get one spell out of your starting book? And no gods to gift you others? I second the "this seems a bit harsh" sentiment. Maybe just have learning a spell remove it from the book, similarly to how you can normal...

Re: New dialogue for Singing Sword

Looking through the file, I came across some lines that could use a review. @The_weapon@ wonders, "Am I just an instrument of [demise|death|downfall]?" Not sure "demise" and "downfall" work here, they need to someones demise or downfall. Suggested replacement: @The_weap...

Re: Darkness Hexes/Earth and maybe the new (new) Stalker

So far the only argument in favor of adding Earth to it has been that Earth magic users will benefit from it. And as another point jwb ignored, this is an argument against it. And you're assuming nobody tried it out, right? Yes. He wasn't proposing a spell orthogonal to anything normally trained. H...

Re: Darkness Hexes/Earth and maybe the new (new) Stalker

I have yet to hear why exactly this would be so bad an idea. Could it be, could it be - that the sheer power (and irresistability!) of earth spells might mean that their short range actually serves to attempt to balance them? Yes, and to reiterate I am aware of that. And of course there are current...

Crocodile (Bizarrely tiny) It is a lot less dangerous than an alligator though, which I'm not sure makes all that much sense. Maybe rename it "caiman" in the same go. Unseen horror (Iconic, like the tmons) I rather like the current one. It's a good thing IMO that it doesn't look all that ...

Re: Darkness Hexes/Earth and maybe the new (new) Stalker

Ok, I seem to be the only one to whom making darkness have something to do with earth is fitting thematically. That's a bit of a surprise, but alright, I seem to be the weird one there. So, moving on to balance: I think Earth is the elemental school that currently would profit most from having acces...

Re: Darkness Hexes/Earth and maybe the new (new) Stalker

Come to think of it, it's easy enough to just wield a lantern of shadows for the same effect. That plus darkness (or vehumet) puts everything in sight in stone arrow range. Just to put this in perspective. It's not the same effect. A lantern of shadows wrecks your spellpower, makes you unable to us...

Re: Darkness Hexes/Earth and maybe the new (new) Stalker

Thanks for the feedback! 1) Why do you want to make casting Darkness easier for those conjurers who already have a good reason to use it? "This would be quite useful to users of earth/conjuration spells, so they shouldn't have to invest exp to use it" doesn't sound very convincing to me. B...

Darkness Hexes/Earth and maybe the new (new) Stalker

Hello all crawlies! The other day, my HOEE came across a book with Darkness. That made me think about how it would be pretty nice for EEs to change the playing field in favour of their low ranged conjurations. Plus I'd like more elemental tie-ins for Hexes, and more schools usable with Earth apart f...
