I would not use DE (a decidedly niche race) as an example for your argument. It would be much more convincing to use a species that actually attempts to function like most other species in Crawl.

I got that dancing weapon to "almost destroyed" with 4 bolts. Now I know those were extremely lucky shots but there was no way to see that in the game. I like games where I can make INFORMED decisions, where I get excited with lucky rolls (46 out of 1-48) or unlucky rolls (2 out of 1-48)....
