The point really is that fists don't deal any damage until you are next to the monster: You have 50-70 aut before you need to take a form and with bows trained to even just 12 most things are dead before then. Most things in crawl melee, so taking them down before they are in melee range really help...

The trick to getting good Oka gifts is to gain piety quickly. It's not that the gifts are better, it's just that you get more of them. So, regenerate instead of resting, if possible. Use an amulet of faith if you find one.

I guess I play transmuters differently than you. I don't walk around in a form all the time. Instead, I cast the spell just before I melee (or just before I need it otherwise for EV or resists or whatnot). That way it matters less you can't use weapons in the form. Not sure that encouraging stair dancing is the most elegant answer for Zot. "Stairs" in Pan and the hells are interesting because they are one-way. I would like one-way stairs to be used in more places. Zot is a possible place to use them.

Assuming a launcher enchantment of +8 and no skill, the strength needed for bows is 16 while the strength needed for slings is 24. With skill=27, this becomes 18 and 14.

With the +11 sling "Punk", you need str=28 at skill=0.

Ranged combat is odd.

I was assuming that DGR works for up to half of the body armour's AC.

With AC of 18, average damage wearing mottled dragon armour was 9.3 while average damage wearing leather armour was 9.9.

GDR is not totally worthless: 28% GDR at 18 AC is about equivalent to 14% GDR at 20 AC.
