Yeah, I forgot to post here, but the basic issue was fixed, as stated here:

Also for me the compilation needs NO_PKGCONFIG parameter for make, otherwise the makefile fails to find the contribs.

Wait, I think I saw a felid unique spellcaster just yesterday.. Unfortunately I don't remember it's name, but I remember that after I killed I met it again on the same floor. Maybe it has 9 lives? Anyway it was quite unexpected and interesting to say the least.

Who is in charge of updating those? Couldn't it be automated maybe? On windows I have git setup and update/recompile myself every two days or so, but I'm not that often on linux an can't be bothered to set it up there.. And it updating automatically was quite convenient. And I dislike playing online...

Identifying stuff (including scrolls) is on of the reasons I even play roguelikes..
I'm not very good at them, but identifying and discovering stuff is really one of the most fun things in DCSS for me, and the reason that it has such awesome replayablity.

And knowledge bots are more up-to-date(and overall more correct) than wiki. That of course doesn't mean you shouldn't train it at some point, as it gives hp.. 2)...

No, from Mumra's link you can download precompiled, ready to unpack and play version. Which is nice, unless you want to update it as often as I do (every other day usually), and want to be able to try development branches (like playing djinn before they were added to main trunk).

First guess. Manuals are generated with different amounts of "charges". So indeed one manual can give you more benefit than another. Add aptitude differences to this and what you described is quite likely and in no way a bug.

Manual copying trunk gets tedious after a while. I recommend you get MSysGit and use that to update your trunk. There is tutorial on main site I think.

Yeah. Don't remember why though. I think the one in settings somehow wasn't working so I read somewhere that it searches first in main dir and copied it there. Also does not get overwritten on the odd-chance that someone changed it on git and I git pull.

I personally ditch the starting spellbook (got a gift namelex for it), an go full combat-namelexite. Especially since the staff is pretty strong.

Also with significant failure rates, and no way to tell if the spell failed (it would be pointless to give false info if you could tell it's false info) the spells would be rather useless as the info they give would never be reliable.

and the danger due the possibility an item may be cursed is non-existent past the first 2/3 floor of the dungeons - except very rare game where ?remove curse is particularly scarse. You said it yourself - the problem is not that you can find better armour - that's the part of roguelike: checking it...

How is checking whether you found something better than you currently have "scummy"? It's interesting, and partly dangerous because it can be cursed.
If we applied your idea, we could as well remove from dungeon every piece of non-ego armour except for the first of each type ..

I guess this is a fault in dungeon-generating algorithm. I don't think you can get out, unless that potion is resistance and you are lucky. I would still try to search for secret door along all walls.

Complete coincidence, since escape hatches throw you to a random spot on a level, and a new one each time at that (afaik). If you don't have scroll of teleportation or wand of digging then I think you can't get out. There used to be a similar issue when you exit the abyss with AK at the begging and ...
