Re: CiP - LOMo of TSO: Glitch + bad reaction = help

The end. I created a Divine Shield, after which my health dropped down to 1. I started drinking curing potions madly, actually getting my health back to around 50, and used my wand of teleportation at some point. I got teleported...right back to where I originally teleported from. Better than where ...

Re: CIP - LOMo of TSO Glitch + bad reaction = help

Stumbled into the last floor of Vaults. Fun. I drink a couple of potions, read a scroll of immoliation, then drink a potion of berserk rage, ready to do some murdering. "You hit the vault guard." is not the message I was expecting. I notice my currently held weapon: a staff of summoning. D...

Okay, just passing by to say Corgat is still alive and well. Managed to clear the Enchanted Forest after a close call, as I didn't realize spriggan druids could cause trees to be so violent while at the same time took on more than I could handle with all the firefly riders poking me with venomous we...

Indeed. Upon checking my mutations afterwards, there was nothing new. Kind of a shame, but it isn't unreasonable. Potions of mutation are risky business.

Re: CIP - LOMo of TSO first rune acquired =o

Ugh, tried fighting Mara. That wasn't fun. Had to run away since I was getting nothing done and Mara was. My crocodile was even having a hard time hurting Mara despite all the smiting it did. =( In other news, made it to D:27 and cleared the Zot entrance vault. Very dragon/draconian themed. The inne...

Re: CIP - LOMo of TSO first rune acquired =o

Hehe, it's even better if I'm ever in intense combat and need an escape plan, thanks to the speed boost gained by melting. I'm starting to notice that Lava Orcs are quite effective axe wielders, and not just for their aptitude, since they already benefit greatly from being in the middle of the fray....

Woo! I have acquired the gossamer rune from the Spider Nest. Nothing especially dangerous showed up except for a few uniques. I had a bit of a dangerous encounter with Arachne, fighting her instead of running away like I planned (because I accidentally ran past the stairs, whoops), but I have an abs...

Re: CIP - LOMo of TSO going unexpectedly well

What spells do you have available? It might be better to go for some charms rather than fire magic. You're already pretty axe-murdery. Fire magic would take a lot of investment to make useful without downgrading your armor. Do Orc next. You shouldn't have trouble. Why are you saving those enchant w...

CiP(YASD) - LOMo of TSO: A terrible curse

So yes, I decided to give the Lava Orc race a go to see how they work, and chose monk sort of randomly, expecting to die quickly from inexperience and overconfidence. Odd thing is, I'm still alive here on the sixteenth level of the dungeon with little issue mowing down my foes. I'm certain something...

Re: I think we learned an important lesson today.

Okay, I wrote that poorly. It needed a hyphen. Don't read unidentified scrolls in an attempt to ID them whilst standing next to your BiA-summoned berzerking ogre, lest they turn out to be immolation and you become the target of said ogre's rage. No penance, just the summoned ally turned hostile. I ...

Re: Spell skill leveling and skills in general

Okay, thanks for the various suggestions and information, people. I'll try out some different characters, and probably experiment more on my own. Just had a DEIE die to Blork and an angry horde of assorted creatures because I let him get too close, but it's going well besides that.

Re: Spell skill leveling and skills in general

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll see how I do with them. As clarification, you're saying that it's good to be always (or often) training a few schools of magic, but to put focus on one or two main skills, correct?

Now then, away, to eventual death! :D

Spell skill leveling and skills in general

Sorry if this is described somewhere else clearly, but I'm feeling lazy today (and interactive ). At some point in my learning DCSS, I came across some bit of information recommending to focus on skills that are necessary to keep your character alive, at least early on. With melee characters, this i...

Been an awful while, but once long ago I came across either a gold dragon or crystal dragon hide on ~D:1-2. I don't remember much about that round, but the important part is that I died quickly thereafter. EDIT: Hey, worst find time. On D:4, but eh. First Ijyb. Then Grinder. Then Dovan and Duvessa. ...

rougelike This is a common misnomer/typo. The term is 'roguelike', as in 'similar to the game Rogue '. Rouge is something different. Bah, I make that mistake way too often. I've learned the difference between rogue and rouge many times, but I always seem to forget anyways. Thanks for catching me th...

game over and over It's a game that drove me nuts, but I loved every moment of it. Of course, it's not nearly as hard as some roguelikes, but the difficulty's up there for mainstream games nowadays. Still, having played this before even knowing what a roguelike was, I think it helped me ease into t...

Mmm, that's probably a good idea. And really, there was a lot of food lying around the shoals too (might've just been the RNG at work though). I just didn't think about that because it was my first time in the area.

Whooooooooops. Got excited when I found that there was a potion of curing on Lair 5 (thanks for reminding me about that function, carbonbasedlifeform (you don't happen to listen to a similarly named group's music, do you?)), and somehow forgot that that was where the blink frogs were waiting. Yeah, I didn't really think leaving Okawaru would do much good for my health at this point. I'm probably going to swap the useless ring of magical power for one of my others. Choice's aren't all that helpful looking: Cursed copper ring, cursed ring of teleportation, and ring of sustenance. I suppose...

Currently holds the highly one of a kind attribute known as being dead. I wasn't really sure how this character was going to turn out, as I'd just randomly applied some questionable guide on learndb for a Mountain Dwarf to a Deep Dwarf, but he's been doing really well for me, despite continued weapo...

When attempting to summon a demon (via ability from what'shisface god), failing, and trying again, the demon will spawn hostile (every time?). Should've learned when I did it with a minor demon summon, but no. Up against a Griffon, tried the stronger summon and got a Blizzard Demon. If I was thinkin...

Don't assume just because it's only a skeletal yellow wasp that you can simply mash the forward key until it's dead. Watch your health bar. Do you mean a yellow wasp zombie? Yellow wasps don't leave skeletons. Ah, yes. Checking the morgue file, it was most certainly a yellow wasp zombie. I figured ...

Well, did better than I expected. "Accidentally" killed a small abomination when I thought I was choosing a location for blink, gaining two levels, but ended up murdered by three electric eels. Couldn't stop and hide, lest the Iron Imp would catch me.

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

As a DDW at XLV: 3, do I have any chance of escaping the Abyss? I lack good defense, but I have some nice weapons (+2, +0 whip of distortion, elven short sword of electrocution, and quarterstaff of chaos) for how long I've been playing.
