Re: Tiles for OSX will not open

Zut alors, this is my brother's computer. I can't justify upgrading his OS just so I can play crawl on vacation. I suppose that I'll just wait till we get home for more crawl. Thanks anyway!

Tiles for OSX will not open

Hi! I'm having some trouble getting Crawl to run on a Mac. It's running OS X version 10.6.8, and every time I try and open the application (the built in Apple Unzipper unzips the file into a single icon) I get the following message: "Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup-Tiles cannot be opened because of a ...

Drain: Does it still reduce XP?

Getting back into crawl for the new edition, I notice the wiki (I know, I know) no longer mentions monsters hit with drain give lesser XP. Was this quirk removed, or is this just badwiki being bad?

Re: Armor pf Ponderousness: Worth it?

Well, that armor carried me to the bottom of the vaults and GDA, which then carried me to my first ascension

By the end of the game, I had 49 AC and 32 EV. I was basically untouchable.

Thanks. I'm handling things pretty well for now, in the Lair, but I'll keep an eye out for a trade.

Armor pf Ponderousness: Worth it?

My MiBe just picked up a +9 plate armor of Ponderousness. This thing puts my AC to 34, but I'm unfamiliar with the Pondering ego. How harsh is this slowdown? Is it worth holding on to?

Re: Trog gifts only ammo?

Trog and Okawaru always give ammo gifts now, even if your skills are 0 (they will default to throwing ammo in this case). The chance of getting an ammo gift increases with your highest missile skill, reaching a maximum at 11 skill. This is irrevocable and the chance of getting an ammo gift will not...

Re: Trog gifts only ammo?

Actually, god damn, this thing works well. I might just run with it. He gave me a +5 freezing hand crossbow and I'm killing things effectively.

Trog gifts only ammo?

Hey guys. I got back into crawl for the first time in a while, and am tearing it up as a MiBe. I picked up an arbalest in a bailey and had fun shooting orcs, leveling XBows up till 5. Problem is, now trog's gifting me a ton of ammo for something I don't really intend to use. Will he ever actually gi...

Alright. Thanks, guys; I don't exactly have a surfeit of late-game experience, so this advice is really helpful. (Incidentally, how does one go about giving thanks for posts?)EDIT: NEVERMIND, found the button.

Anti-magic: Useful or just filler?

I've spent most of my short time in crawl refining my Beserkers. My major playstyle is the AC-monster, 2-handed-axe MiBe (although hilariously, my best char by far was a human, short blades/evasion beserker. Yes, a KoBe except no gourmand.). Anyway, something I've found over time was that I found my...

AC/EV/SH?

I'm curious as to how, if at all, the respective defensive values stack/collaborate with each other. For example, is it better to have one value absurdly high with nothing in the other two, or is a more balanced spread more effective?

Re: Non-caster advice

I've played more MiBe than I'd really like to admit. I usually go heavy armour, high damage, which makes the character so simple it's practically baby mode. Every stat point to STR, with only 3 core skills--Fighting, Axes, and Armour. Ignore Armour till axes is around 13-15 (min delay for most axes ...

Re: Legrun god of mortality.

I'm shaky on the god as a whole, but the Purge ability sounds friggin' hilarious. Not to mention gives some use for those potions of paralysis/confusion etc. Also, if I understand correctly, the Gift of Life ability doesn't RESURRECT demons, it "returns life to them" in the sense that it m...

HELP: I cannot into Gladiator

So I've recently fallen in love with Merfolk. I really like them, thematically, and the idea of eventually making a Fedhas Javelineer warms my heart. HOWEVER, my Crawl experience is almost entirely MiBe, which are essentially like playing Crawl on easy mode. As a result, I have NO clue on how to pro...

Oka peity

Hey all. I've been filling around with various gods, and it's struck me that a lot of them are functionally identical when it comes to piety gain, especially Trog and Okawaru. It seems to me that thematically, the "slash-and-burn" version of piety growth--murder a monster, sacrifice its co...

YSAD---Stat death MiBe is saddening.

Hey all. Thought I'd kick off my first thread in the Tavern with the tale of Rolf, Minotaur Berserker. I'm fairly new to crawl, having only played for a few months. I've been polishing my MiBe resume, and I think I'm not too far away from my first win. My very best char ever perished in Zot:1 after ...

Re: POLL: How do YOU usually kill red Jellies?

I play mainly MiBe, so I usually just engage them in standard melee. I'm usually so absurdly buff that I can squelch them before they can corrode anything.
