Not to mention mention that there's no tutorial or instructions, and your character continually ages towards permadeath as you desperately try to figure out how to play, and what to do. I mean, jeez, it's a wide open sandbox with permadeath, massive featureitus, and an unpredictable time limit.

Pretty sure monsters only quaff a limited selection of useful potions.

If you want to make a field of booby traps, you could set one up with book burning. Or fulsome, !poison, and ignite poison. Wouldn't serve much purpose, but you could make it funny once or twice.

Well, the main reason we probably don't do that is there are cases where the inscription would be irrelevant, or worse, unwanted. I know I'm actually annoyed by some of the auto-inscriptions that come default now with a few of the backgrounds. You could probably set up the auto-inscriptions yourself...

Early on pain is way more valuable than the necronomicon. You can brand your weapon as soon as you get to ******, but you can't make full use of the book until you have the int, necro and spell slots. Additionally, you may not need to attempt deforestation to get in. The elephant statue map has at least one dead end, and I think there's a secret door on route to the loot chamber (I'd pull up the vault and check for you, but I'm away from my local copy atm).
