Re: Marduk the fiery Demonspawn [CiP]

According to the knowledge bot... Skill_rate is 3*Spellcasting + 2*Intelligence + 12*(Average of skills in spell schools used by that spell). To cast a level 9 Without wizardry bonus: skills_rate = 330. 3 * 21 + 2 * 28 + 12 * ((19 + 9)/2) = 63 + 56 + 168 = 287 < 330 Assuming the same Int and Spellca...

Re: Marduk the fiery Demonspawn [CiP]

Getting T&D to 10 before Zot is nice, keeps you from hitting zot traps (I'd still get Fire Storm first) I'd personally turn fighting off until you get Firestorm castable, the extra HP are nice but not amazing. Ignite Poison will make Snake a joke. Flight for Shoals is nice but not 100% necessary...

Re: Marduk the fiery Demonspawn [CiP]

Meph cloud + fireball can work, firestorm is better. Thinking about it, going snake before elf could be doable. It's hard for me to be sure, since my casters normally have firestorm running by the time they finish vault down to 7.

Re: Marduk the fiery Demonspawn [CiP]

Yeah, Demonic Guardian is crazy powerful. Nice resists, but I'd be careful, the -rC could be fatal in the wrong circumstances. Spell wise, Firestorm is amazing, loud, hunger inducing, but amazing. If I were you, I'd rush it as hard as I could. Location wise, I'd do vault down to 7 then elf down to 4...

We talked on crawl-dev for awhile, and it sounds like the devs were more favorable of ripping out these items and creating new items that don't duplicate existing spells.

Bringing some love to evokable items

In my games of crawl and in reading the forums/wiki I've come to believe that some of the evokable (misc) items could use some love. Here are my assertions ⋅ Evocation provides some magical options to non-spell casters who acquire the items (Spells are generally better than the equivalent ...

CIP - MiFi (First melee to make midgame)

After getting so close with a few casters, I decided to switch it up with a melee character (or like 30). This is the first successful one. I've cleared Lair and Orc, and dungeon down to 14. Okawaru's armor gifts have been fail (including a +0 cap when I already had one). My short-term skill plan is...

While I feel somewhat comfortable with Cj based casters (DEFE, DEWz and the like), I'd like to try the other end of the spectrum, a melee fighter. I normally play DEWz/DECj/DEFE, but I think similar advice holds: I'd turn off all skills but Spellcasting/Air/Conj until you get lightning bolt closer to 3% than 8%, and then Spellcasting alone until you get it closer to hungerless. Beyond that, I'd pick one or two aux skills to focus on, right now...
