Re: What would make DC be super slow?

I have not tried console.

I suspect that the machine @ work has just w/e drivers happen to come through windows updates.
If I get around to it, I may try and find a better driver.
Hopefully, I won't get stuck up there after hours again any time soon. ; )

What would make DC be super slow?

I am stuck here at work after hours and not working. I dl'd DC to this computer--which behaves well enough normally. But it's amazingly slow and eats up 50% of the CPU cycles. This is a Pentium D 2.99GHz with 3Gig Ram and running win7 32bit. I don't expect anyone to try and trouble shoot this comput...

I'd be glad to.
Is there a page with instructions somewhere?

Going up a level exits game?

Is anyone familiar with this one? I can go down a level, but w/e I go up a level the game exits. I don't die or anything. The character is still there. The game just exits. It seems to be tied to one character only. Is there some thing that is likely to cause this behavior? Honestly, I am not intere...

Re: Sorting Inventory

The tile inventory group items by type but not by sub-type. Amulets and rings are both of the jewellery type. Needles, arrows and darts are all of the missile type. What you're asking for isn't supported. Ideally, I guess the inventory panel should use the same sorting as the inventory menu. That w...

Re: Sorting Inventory

Another dumb question: are you saving your changes before you start the game again? (I know, I know, but best to cover everything.) Well, if you didn't ask and I wasn't saving the file, nothing else we tried would work. Less dumb question: do you have any sort_menus lines in any of the other settin...

BlackSheep wrote:This is probably a dumb question, but are you restarting the game after making changes to your init.txt file?
I exit the game before I make any changes to the init.txt

Then I start the game again after I make changes.

Is my syntax wrong?
Is there a typo?

Re: Sorting Inventory

Well, I tried it and it works fine. Have you tried changing other options with a more obvious effect to see if it is taken into account by the game? Yes. I can change the screen size, HP and MP warnings and colors, Then I have no idea what's wrong. Maybe post your config file here. Just paste it in...

Re: Sorting Inventory

shouldn't sort_menus = true : basename, qty yield inventory sorted first by basename and then by quantity? Yet I end up with my inventory in the exact same mixed order as always--arrows, bolts, darts and needles amongst one another w/o any regard to the number on hand let alone by type, amulets in a...

Re: Sorting Inventory

Or use the sort_menus option (and read the options_guide.txt to figure it out). I read it. Tried it. Came here for help. I have tried various things but have been unable to produce any noticeable change whatsoever in the ordering of my inventory. I am convinced that I am doing something wrong or fa...

Sorting Inventory

I would like for my inventory to be sorted thusly: all like items together--potions next to potions, daggers next to daggers, dart next to darts etc identified items to the left of [before] un-identified items and then by quantity if applicable identified items ordered by name and then by charges if...

Re: Why don't changes in init.txt have any effect?

I just meant that it may be quicker, easier, and more productive to merely start with what's the right way to do things rather than try to figure out which wrong thing I did.

There's no reason why I can't just wipe the folder and start again.

Thank you for your time.

Re: Why don't changes in init.txt have any effect?

Can we re-start this the other way round instead of trying to chase a bug?

What are the specific steps to being able to edit and use the init.txt file as it seems I should be able to?
It's not as straight forward as it seems to me.

Re: Why don't changes in init.txt have any effect?

Thanks. Even though I have uncommented the lines, there doesn't seem to be any impact on the sort order for my inventory. Not on existing characters nor on newly made ones. sort_menus = inv: true : art, basename, qualname, fullname, qty, equipped, freshness, charged, curse I wasn't sure if I had to ...

Why don't changes in init.txt have any effect?

Afaict, the init.txt file is where I should go to make changes to settings for behavior in the game.
But nothing I do seems to have any effect at all.

Is there some step something I am missing?

I am using a win7 64 machine
no other mods to the game
