So Orbs of Destruction are powerful enough to destroy walls and explodimicate stone giants into a bajillion gory chunks of flesh. Why is it then that you can completely negate the destructive power of an Orb of Destruction with a puny little wooden buckler?

Those are the specific items that I believe should be used most liberally, because if you don't you end up never using them and then you turn them off in autopickup after your stash gets filled up with like 30 of them.
