Searing Ray is also godly. Pretty much melts almost any early uniques you find, except maybe Grinder if he paralyzes you.

I learn it to deal with early monster packs (gnoll, orc, kobold) and the occasional killer bee pack in D, and to trivialize most of orc mines. I usually just amnesia it after that.

But I'd expect FP to have some advantage over the direct-fire type weapons, since it requires guessing where the opponent will be (not generally too hard), and a 20 aut delay, instead of firing where the enemy is right now , and doing damage right now . No, I enjoy it because it's basically a second resource other than mana that I have to manage. I mean, it only takes 5 auts to remove an amulet. Yeah, stasis doesn't really do anything in 99% of situations, but it's not very harmful either as long as you remember to take it off when you need to blink or something. What was the reason that spider form lost its speed and wall clinging abilities? If it was too strong for a level 3 spell, you could have raised the level of it. Now the only similarity between spider form and actual spiders is the venom branded attack.

Treasure troves typically ask for fully charged wands, I don't think I've ever seen one just ask for a wand and not specify how much charges it needs.

I believe that shafts really shouldn't exist in a game like this. Unlike banishment, it happens completely randomly and is entirely outside of the players control, and unlike teleport traps it puts you in completely unexplored + unfamiliar + unsafe territory with no sense of where you should retreat...

You could simply change all the wands to have different success rates, depending on their power, just like how hex spells work. It would actually make more sense that way.
