I see no-weapon starts as more hurtful to AM because if you equip a -1 club you can't use your ranged weapons anymore.

If you want a skill at a given level (say arbitrarily, 12 polearms for mindelay) then you would just allot enough xp to defray the rust penalties 99% of the time

So very little would change except the intrduction of even more micromanagement

The notion of "experience points" abstracts character advancement to a degree that I find it hard to believe that there is a sifnificant difference in sensicality regarding conditions under which certain skills can be advanced.
