Without storytelling at all, it would be a game of balancing arbitrary numbers and positioning arbitrary ASCII characters on a computer screen. It's not, it's a game of dungeon exploration and survival. You don't need to have hp bars and kobolds for a game to be about survival http://senseis.xmp.ne...

I'm not saying those are the only 2 gods you can worship, I'm saying that those are the 2 go-to gods that most people SHOULD worship unless they have a particular synergy in mind. I don't agree with that at all. The only combos that I feel are very strongly disposed towards a particular god are Be,...

Chei is a weak god with no particular synergy with VM (except that Chei is least bad for casters and VM is pretty strong early.) Chei is certainly not the strongest choice on a VM,which depends on the character but here are some gods that are almost always going to be better: Makhleb, Nemelex, Kiku....

Damage is more than base damage + slaying bonuses. It's affected also by skills and stats, the former of which (at least) multiplies base damage but not slaying bonuses. This means that weapons with high base damage will do more damage than weapons with lower base damage but higher slaying bonuses. ...
