Re: Make Cheibriados Better

I'm not a big fan of the actual implemention of GDR, largely because it's complex and there's no in-game indication that it exists. I do think something like this needs to exist to reduce damage variance for heavy armor. But I really don't like the mechanic where 30 AC from wearing GDA is different ...

Re: Make Cheibriados Better

I did not realize it didn't work against arrows, I'd been thinking it worked on anything that checked AC but I see it doesn't. Herp derp never mind, that does indeed make it not really helpful. That's really odd, but good to know.

Re: Make Cheibriados Better

I agree with the basic "(at least part of) the problem with Chei is that Strength and Dex aren't very useful" idea. But I don't like the idea of giving him I Can't Believe It's Not Haste; that kind of defeats the point. Strength and Dex really just need a fixin' in general. Almost everyone...

I found that training Stealth on deep elf casters is vital to that kind of YASD not happening. Being able to back off from bad fights is useful - and so is being able to get close enough to Mephitic Cloud immediately.

Ah, thanks. I was looking at XP instead of under Skills.

I was mostly interested in being able to figure out which skills I should train for multi-school spells, so the conversion rate shouldn't be a problem.

It's not Draconian, it's Spider Form. That's a thing with Transmuters in general. Spider Form and Evaporate will let you stomp all over 99% of the stuff you meet in the early game, because very few things can hit spider form, and spider form can run from stuff. Evaporate works on nearly everything, ...

I've noticed that shapeshifters keep turning into weaker and weaker creatures as you fight them longer...I had one cycle straight from death drake down to green rat. What's up with that? I wasn't using draining on it.

I always thought the whole "convert to Lugonu to get out of the Abyss" thing was a cool idea but never actually a good one, because nearly every god has wrath that's at least as dangerous as being in the Abyss and it's enormously unlikely that you end up Abyssed before you have a god. I fi...

You might consider training enough summoning for Summon Elemental; there's rock everywhere to summon EEs from, and they're quite good for dealing with HP-sack monsters.

Animate Thread! Having played around more with Nemelex, I've concluded that the following strategy seems to work best if you are picking up Nemelex first (rather than as a late or end game convert). Turn off Wonders and Escape. Sacrifice everything. This means all your decks are Wonders, Destruction...

Thirding "get those gloves right away." You really don't care much about Hunger as a kobold so +Hunger is more a nuisance than a drawback. Eating more is an annoyance; dying sucks. The helm is not that great. I would, however, still buy it since you (a) can afford that and the gloves (b) h...

I think Sif can theoretically kill you with INT drain, but it's unlikely. A ring of sustain abilities makes it even more unlikely. Since you can't emergency-restore your stats as a mummy I would probably wear one. I have waited out her wrath twice, and never went to dangerously low INT, but if you h...

A few things: First, don't read scrolls if there's some un-ID'd scroll that could shaft you that badly, eg, don't read anything until you can live through Immolation, don't read anything while holding a weapon if Curse Weapon will shaft you horribly, etc. Second, for a non-Okawaru transmuter, you ca...

If you want a second summoning spell, Haunt is a sensible choice for creating emergency swarms. They can't kill things nearly as well as dragons, but can tie things up well enough, and you don't care about hunger. You don't need to worry about wrath. You're a mummy. Just abandon sif, hang out in the...

A Demon Trident of Pain is a very solid weapon - if you have the Necromancy skill to back it up. That spear is worth holding onto as a swap for rPois but it is not nearly as good a weapon. Zin does make hells enormously less dangerous, though, by removing hell effects (I think it's Piety/2%, same as the other resists), and of course entomb and sanctuary as emergency escapes. You might well be able to switch, dump a ton of cash to Zin, and then speed-grab some of the Hell runes.

One thing to keep in mind is that how effective Mara is varies wildly based on his AI. Always be ready to try again later against him; if you are able to flee...

The revolving door is also funny if you have a way of generating damaging effects on tiles, eg, conjure flame in front of the door, let the monster walk into it, slam the door on them, and keep closing the door as they open it. You might try building up a stack of Large Abominations outside of lair, then returning. You have a spellbook with it and you should be able to caste it acceptably. They are undead (hence poison-immune) and should be able to beat down killer bees for you. I would not try this without a way to deal w...
