Re: My background ranking

Some quick but serious background tiers, for a human character:

SS: Be
S: IE Ar
A: Fi As Su
B: Gl Wr
C: FE EE Wz AK Cj
D: En Wn Mo Sk Ne AE Hu AM
E: Tm VM
F: CK

Ranking backgrounds is harder than ranking species. SS, S and F I am confident in but the rest depend on the time of day.

Re: I think Dire Flail of Pain is good

With Kiku, using pain is a no-brainer. Do you think it's better than vamp, assuming a decent base damage weapon? This seems to be a purely hypothetical question, as I can't imagine facing a choice between pain or vamp with the same base type and enchant. But the better the base type (and slaying/en...

Pain is very good, but it's rare that I have a game where the opportunity cost of dropping everything I'm doing to switch to a pain weapon is worth the gain. With Kiku, using pain is a no-brainer. Streaking's not fun at all and I've more or less stopped playing crawl because of it. The tedium is only part of the problem. The bigger part is that it's so discouraging how random the early game is.

More fun to egg Ultra on to do crazy stuff like this exclusion run to show how bad traps are.

V5 is my favourite floor in crawl, so I have a few things to say about it. The start of V5 is the hardest stage. Capping paralysis duration to 3 or 4 turns doesn't result in any loss of depth. The best play remains the same. It just gets rid of extreme scenarios which do occur and aren't fun. I can only imagine positive effects from such a change.
