Consumables and wands are plenty. Personally, I always like the ID game early, as ID a stack of blink scrolls, haste potions, or a good wand is a huge power/ego boost early.

ID game is tedious late game and extended. It's never tedious to me early.

Now I'm thinking - isn't "good for extended" (Dg's attributes and bonus hp/mp) bad design? Firestorm/Glaciate and Necromutation are basically extended spells and I've read oppinions that those spells are badly designed (i.e. not necessary to win).

OK, I analysed some more Dg morgues and it seems they seem easy enough played as a battlemage, who has guaranteed spells strong enough to get first 2 runes. Non-book Dg who doesn't find books before Temple means lots of running away, which is antithesis of fun for me. The problem of -1 to everything...

Yes, Punk is excellent because against high-AC non-acid resistant foes it deals lots of guaranteed damage each hit once corrosion kicks in.

On the whole however slings without slaying are too weak to use later, I'm afraid.

Difference between haste spell and haste wand/potion is that it's totally random whenever you get the second one in the first place. They don't generate that often, while spellbooks w' haste in them generate much more often, because they have other spells in them that aren't as broken as haste. BTW....
