stone of tremors plus haste is an ok way to take out oofs if you can't go toe to toe very easily

The part entitled Safe Channelling. It will channel either through sif or with a staff of energy and you can effectively hold it down because it will stop you if you hit full mana or a monster comes into view.

Hex wands are the way to go. Shock serpents have low MR so it's pretty easy to paralyze/confuse/polymorph them. edit: forgot slow and enslavement wands

This is a rather silly thing to say. Nobody thinks this, theologians included.

edit: and to add something to the discussion, I like the idea of all the things stats affect being documented somewhere in game.

Re: Weapon+Buckler choice

I think going for Glaciate with only 24 int is pretty greedy. It would be a huge xp investment and your failure rate/spell power would probably never be that good. On top of that, it's kind of overkill since you already have good melee skill. Freezing Cloud is still a good idea though.

Arrow Autoinscription Function

I was playing a bow based character today and it came to me that these would be much more convenient if I set up my rc file to autoinscribe the various arrow types with Q@1, Q@2, etc., so I set about doing so. I had no problem with poisoned arrows, arrows of flame, arrows of frost, or arrows of disp...

Having a cursed weapon of any sort in the early game is pretty bad for EE's because it means you can't wield stones for sandblast.

Re: Mage Class Help

I'm not sure about the Naga recommendation. They allow for mistakes of the "woops didn't realize how much damage that guy does" variety but not positioning mistakes because of their slow movement speed. Hill Orc Fire Elemantalists is a good combination for beginners imo.

Nice job. This is inspiring to me as I just lost a really good HuIE to an angel floor in Pan after getting 10 runes. ;_;

Also feel free to inform me if both of those are terrible ideas and I should pick a different weapon or not invest in melee at all, though I'm pretty sure that I should be able to kill things without mana.

Re: What can I do to survive as a mage?

Generally you should be picking off orcs one by one. If you see just one orc, magic dart it and run backwards to separate it from the pack that is likely next to it. If you see a whole pack but only one of them saw you, draw it backwards so you don't have to deal with them all at once. Fight in hall...

CIP - SEEE of Sif Muna: which weapon?

This guy has been doing really well. He has both Shatter and Controlled Blink online. He also got the abyssal rune as his first rune at level 16 when he got banished by a zot trap. Anyway, I decided that it was finally time to invest in a melee attack. I'm trying to decide between going staffs and u...

YAVP: SEWz 15 runes woo dragons

Decided I wanted to try my hand at summoning, but I don't like the Summoner starting book/attributes nearly as much as Wizard, so I rolled SEWz. I managed to get all the way up to the end of the lair before I started heavily relying on summoning. I wanted as much xp as possible before I transitioned...

How worthwhile is it to train up dodging on a dedicated conjurer? If it is worth it, how far? (Given the time frame/xp of a 3 rune game)

Re: The 'Questions too small to need their own thread' threa

How do I safely abandon Kiku as a living character? I've started building a stockpile of abominations because from what I've read you can wait it out in the temple with sufficient abominations. Anything else I would need, aside from lots of food (and rings of sustenance)?
