| Description | I had recited (Zin) at some orcs, and left them. When I come back some are marked as "dumb". I stab them, and they shout before dying. Learndb has no entry for "dumb" so I'm not sure if it means something else in crawl, particularly since "mute" is also a status. | ||||||||||||

I'd assume "dumb" means they can't hear (lower chance to notice you) but can still speak (shout) if they notice you. |

Dumb is an almost synonym for Paralyzed in the codebase because long ago someone didn't want to type out stupefied or perhaps stupefied is a separate effect. Fun fact, both paralyzed and dumb monsters are perfectly allowed to shout, even though can_act() returns false for them! |
