Summary 0008192: Tweaks and alterations for several early-game monster tiles
Description Increased saturation and contrast on the goblin, hobgoblin, and Ijyib tiles, which made details a bit more clear (who knew Ijyib had a sweet scar over his eye?) and appended a shadow to hobgoblin tiles. Gave the Necrophage a more dynamic stance, one which can display wielded weapons as well. New cockroach tile with visible head -- anti-aliased so the new angle looks okay.

Two variants on kobold tiles: I never liked how busy their tiles were, and so I removed their green undershirts and darts. Additionally, I added highlights to the metal armour that big kobolds wear, and re-colored Pikel's helmet and breastplate (zoomed in, it was clear that he HAD a helmet, which I had never noticed before). I also brightened up all of the kobold tiles slightly.

In addition are Orc tiles. The first row are the more conservative alterations -- these simply allow wielded weapons to appear for wizards et al.

The second and third rows are alterations to previously-submitted Orc tiles of mine. I added some highlights to the sorceror/high priest tiles, recolored the knight, and upped the saturation/brightness of the wizard and priest to match the tiles currently in the game.

I think these are more distinct from one another than they used to be, which was the main issue that people had with them before. I could continue altering them, and I could go on to re-do Orc uniques if folks think it is worth the effort.

The first set look good, and I'll put them in when I get a chance.

As for the orcs, I (still) like your new looks for the casters, but there are a couple of things I'd change:

First, normal orcs and both priests have a strap over one shoulder, and it's perfectly diagonal, which looks sort of strange. It should probably curve around their torsos.

Secondly, I feel like the warlord (and, to a lesser extent, the knight) need to be a lot bulkier. The existing warlord is a huge, hulking dude, noticeably larger than other orcs; this warlord looks skinnier than the wizard.

Finally (and I guess it's a matter of taste), I kinda like the petulant glare the existing orcs have. Yours seem like reasonable guys.

I like that petulant glare too. I've updated all the orcs and added Roka, Urug, and Nergalle. Blork is, of course, perfect just the way he is.

Orcs are in, with some minor edits (mainly lengthening the casters' robes, since they really need to stand out in a horde). Cheers!

Edits-to-edits: this warlord is red, but still has the big pauldrons; this Roka has the skull, and also has a halo. It is totally cool if you don't feel like changing to these ones.

@roctavian: While you're reworking the orc tiles, could you please change Nergalle's colour scheme?

When I created the original tile, I tried to balance three requirements with my very limited artistic talent: show she's a spellcasting orc (based on orc sorcerors), make her sufficiently different from the plain sorceror, and bring across her being female. I ended up recolouring the sorceror pink and adding garish make-up to match her "especially ugly" description.

I'm sure you can do better. :)

(I also sent you an email. Hope that's okay.)
