Summary 0006302: auto fight incorrectly implies blindness
Description I've had a break from DCSS recently, just got back into it and ive been seeing the message "You are too injured to fight blindly!". At first I assumed I had somehow lost my visibility, but I could still see the map and the enemy.. my status indicated I was poisoned but had no other ill effects. I retreated until my health was better and then attacked once more. I thought this must be a change to force the player to flee when low on health, but this didnt make sense when I realised I could continue the fight with ranged weapons. After putting up with fleeing for a bit I thought I'd seek information on this change online - I then discovered the message is purely related to using the TAB key and can be disabled. Any chance this message can be made clearer? i was playing from a mobile device on the android version, where tab comes in very handy. Something like "Your settings do not allow you to Autofight (Tab) with low HP!" Would be clearer.

"Blindly" here means "recklessly". You really don't want to hold down TAB and die to a goblin just due to bad luck. This message says roughly "Autofight is afraid to fight any more, as will very probably lead to the death of your character. Please use manual fight until you heal up a bit". You still can fight manually in melee (with arrow keys/numpad/rogue keys).

Of course, the message can be changed to "Your settings do not allow you to Autofight (Tab) with low HP!", but I don't like it, as all the fantasy'sque setting and feel is lost.

Agreed that it needs to be changed, but of course the wording should be tasteful and appropriate:

"You are too injured to fight recklessly!" or "You cannot fight like this when severley injured!"

Fixed in trunk (0.12-a0-1571-g08a56f5) and stable (0.11.1-29-gdbc722c), thanks. I used oiseaux's first suggestion, changing "blindly" to "recklessly".
