Summary | 0004103: FR: making HOPr more fun | ||||||
Description |
I'm trying an HOPr now, and while the basic gameplay is interesting, there's quite a bit of annoying stuff. As far as I can see now, there are three main issues: A) While the flavour is different, there's little difference in skill development between an HOPr which tries to build an orc army and orc fighter builds. After all, Invocations is mostly useless for HOPr (Recall doesn't need it and will anyone become inferior to the spell from food perspective if one builds spell schools up. Smite is only situationally useful), and there isn't any reason to build spellcasting too much up (not much in support spells, and most non-support spells are not useful due to targeting). Giving Beogh invokable power(s) to help other orc followers would give a reason to up Invocation skill and help both gameplay (having to make choices when skilling, making orc followers less fragile) and HOPr flavour. B) It is difficult to get orcs to pick up desired equipment. The problem is less with the equipment pickup behaviour (though that can be improved as well: see 0002418 ), but with getting them to get to desired equipment in the first place. When there are a lot of orcs, the more upgraded orcs tend to monopolize close squares (in 'follow mode') and they switch places a lot. In non follow mode, movement is random. So it is needed to waste lots of time to try to get orcs (esp. the specific orc which is stack in leather) to pick something up. Sometimes all the attempts still fail, though it is impossible to know whether one should just wait more. C) It is tiresome to separate orcs, so as to take advanced orcs and keep them in a stash (though you may wish to not support this). |
