Summary 0003901: Crash "ASSERT(smc) in 'mon-util.cc'"
Description To reproduce this crash, load the attached save file and activate scrying. I have been having this bug for a couple of weeks in the 0.8 betas, but until now haven't been able to nail it down in reproducible form. I have observed this crash entering new floors as well.

In the 0.8 betas, the error message was:
"ASSERT(smc) in 'mon-util.cc' at line 955 failed.

In 0.9
"ASSERT(smc) in 'mon-util.cc' at line 975 failed.

Disclaimer: This is the windows version of crawl running under wine.

Thanks for the detailed report and the save. I haven't been able to crash it, so maybe it's related to wine, but it does show that 0003644 can still happen. I'll add a giant base monster for the genus.

Also, if you have trouble compiling, we just started hosting a Ubuntu/Debian repositories. Look at http://crawl.develz.org/wordpress/faster-pussycats-kill-kill [^] for instructions.

I have this exact same problem. It happens for me when I go down stairs or open a door. Maybe it is related to finding new information? I don't think it's happened when I've gone up stairs, however it's only happened twice.

To reproduce it with the files I uploaded simply run them. If that doesn't work run them under the windows installer of the tiled version in WINE in windowed mode.

This is from 0.8.0 stable.

Bug for Baargh: ASSERT(smc) in 'mon.util.c' at line 955 failed.
Bug for AlmostAngryBird: ASSERT(smc) in 'mon.util.c' at line 955 failed.

Also, I never had this problem in the previous stable version (7.something), although I only started playing recently.

I just had this same ASSERT crash when I opened a large door of what I assume was a vault, in the main dungeon. I'd guess it has something to do with the monster generation? This was with 0.9 trunk btw.

EDIT: I'm running Windows 2000, no WINE here, so I think its safe to rule that out?

Loaded the autosave, still happened at exactly the same spot on D:14. It actually autoexplored me right into the door, and therefore the crash: "ASSERT(smc) in 'mon-util.cc' at line 981 failed."
