Summary 0003146: Orc Mines apparently not generated
Description Ctrl-O says I found them, and that they are on D:12. This is not the case, as far as I can tell. Autoexplore on D:12 comes back with "Done exploring," but the map shows five down staircases: three normal (visited) ones, one escape hatch, and one staircase to Lair. Attempting to (G)o to the orc mines yields "Sorry, I don't know how to get there." All floors between D:6 and D:12 have three visited up and down staircases.

Additionally, Henzell claims Orc is generated between D:6 and D:11, so if that's accurate, this makes no sense in the first place.

Game is on CDO, username valrus. I have attached a dump.

It might have been a mimic that has moved or been killed in the meantime. Could you do a save dump on the server, so one of us could check?

Gah, if it is a mimic, I'll hopefully have time to look at it today. It's on my list to go through and ensure that there's balance between player thinking that it might be what it's pretending to be, and the game not jumping to the same conclusion.

I've run into what sounds like the same problem -- I found a stair mimic for a branch I had not yet found, killed the mimic, and yet the branch still showed up in the ctrl-o screen and G menu.

This same issue occurs even if you find the actual branch first, and causes problems with autotravel (0002978).

I think I've fixed this, and I've written a shim that will hopefully rescue any games which had weird branch-entry points sent. Caveat that, if the branch stairs actually are on that level but you haven't seen them yet, it will not remove them from the ^G/overview list.

With regards to your Orc stairs: You probably just have one of the Orc hidden entries, such as Lemuel's "Orcs are a clue". Look for a metal funnel-shape or something similar. I'm pretty sure that there's no way for the branch mimics to prevent it from generating the proper stairs.
