Summary 0011866: Gold pieces are sometimes not shown on top of piles - I have to save and restart
Description This is rather an inconvenience than a bug (but maybe easy to solve?):

After you have slain a foe, there can be a pile - e.g. a corpse at the bottom, gold pieces and a weapon on the top, so in this case you will only see the weapon.

I care about turns and just would like to take/apport the gold pieces.

Strange thing: after I save and restart the game, gold pieces are always on top of the pile.

So after killing e.g. some orcs in the mines, I save and restart the game.

For me this is just a little inconvenience but yesterday I was asked by a spectator why I so often save and restart the game after a few seconds. And yes, for a spectator this is a bit strange...

P.S.: I don't know when I noticed this first, maybe in 0.21 or earlier. But for sure this happens in 0.22 and 0.23.

This is the intended behaviour in that new items falling on an object puts the new items on top - in fact the save/restart thing to get it to be on the top of the pile is considered a bug I believe (it applies with all autopickupables). :)

This intended behaviour seems to be unnecessarily complicated (looking at the bug it causes) while having no real benefits. Imo, if item order in piles were always fixed (preferably inventory-like, but alphabetical or any other are also fine) it'd be much better. Also it's hard to screw up while coding.

Thanks for your comments, and btw thanks for Nebukadnezar. As I always close my chat window I didn't see him spectating my game. And while I watched his game he asked me about my strange save/restore behaviour.

Concerning the piles I agree with Yermak. No matter what's intended behaviour and what's the bug I'd be fine with any solution.

It would be nice if save/restart had no impact on the game at all.
