Summary | 0001052: "Dagger of Returning" incorrectly detected as cursed. A few other oddities. | ||||||||||||
Description |
PLATFORM: XP Pro SP2, Intel 3Ghz, 1G SDRAM SOFTWARE: downloaded file was "stone_soup-0.5.2-tiles-win32.zip", from the stable release directory. ITEMS INVOLVED: a. "+0,+2 orcish dagger of returning" [DoR] b. "uncursed glowing orcish dagger {Glowing}" [ID'd:"+0,+1 orcish dagger"] c. "Scroll of Detect Curse" [SoDC] PROBLEMS: 1. SoDC produces "You sense the presence of curses on your possessions.", even though DoR has no curse effects or indications. 2. Another dagger ("+0,+1 orcish dagger") refuse to identify while DoR is quivered. 3. Upon pickup, DoR will "re-quiver" itself if currently-quivered weapon is there by default (i.e, it does not replace an intentionally-quivered weapon.) 4. When DoR was quivered and the yet-unidentified ("+0,+1 orcish dagger") or identified (same) dagger wielded, it shows both as being DoRs. WORKAROUND: Detects as uncursed properly once it is dropped and picked up again. Clearing the inscription on the other dagger stopped the "cloning" problem. NOTES: The non-DoR had the inscription {Glowing}, which I must have done. Both daggers were "orcish". Dropped everything except a SoDC and both daggers. Failures seemed consistent, though I don't recall if "always" applies. THEORY: 1. The logic in the SoDC routine? (e.g.: We threw it away and it didn't stay gone? Must be cursed). 2. As to the cloning, one or the other dagger's inscription may be to blame. I saw somewhere a prior bug related to DoR inscription. Hope this helps. Thank you for your energy and creativity in improving DCSS. |
