Summary 0011692: Amulet of the gourmand's message not always appropriate.
Description The amulet of the gourmand, when donned, always says: "You feel a craving for the dungeon's cuisine."

This does not seem appropriate either in the case of already-carnivorous species like kitties, or mummies who cannot eat at all.

While there's a Watsonian argument that a mummy can feel a craving for food it cannot eat, I expect Crawl to generally take a Doylist approach; other items of jewellery (eg faith, teleportation) vary their message when they provide no effect.

This feels like a design choice to me. The current approach everywhere in this game is to have an item/spell/ability tell you what it does, and it is up to you to know if that means anything for your character.

Do we want amulets lying around that say "This amulet does nothing for you"? What if at some point there is a spell that makes you temporarily carnivorous, should the text on the amulet change as you go in and out of a carnivorous state? To me, that sounds confusing.

Alternately, we could change the name from "Amulet of the gourmand" to "Amulet of Uselessness" for Felids and Mummies, and call it a day.

This is actually already fixed:

https://github.com/crawl/crawl/blob/bfa02ace7b0344c25e6f2ac9491636ff137fe48b/crawl-ref/source/player-equip.cc#L1274 [^]

By the way, you should be aware there are tons of issues on this tracker that were already fixed, it's always better to check the source or verify in wizard mode :) Or search the commits on github: https://github.com/crawl/crawl/commit/394fb5221806c9948a325b1f74aee27f6a8f31d0 [^]
