Hi crawlers! Ready to devour some fresh trunk changes? (Ha ha! It is a Hydra Form joke.) All joking aside – if you are not ready, please do not read the below. Thanks.
- New spell: Hydra Form. Attacks all adjacent enemies and devours the slain for nutrition and healing. Found in the Book of Transfigurations and a new book, the Fen Folio.
- Monster AC, EV, and MR are now displayed as bars in their description. (When examined, or through ?/M.)
- Wand changes:
- Wand type (not charge count) is auto-ID’d on pickup.
- Zapping wands that don’t have their charge charge count identifies wastes several charges.
- Many weak wands have had their max charge count increased.
- Claymores have been renamed to triple swords; bastard swords have been renamed to double swords. Mega excite.
- Regeneration has been moved from rings to amulets; accordingly, the Ring of Vitality is now the Amulet of Vitality.
- The Hat of the Alchemist is now -2 (rElec rPois rF rC rN MR rMut rCorr). Beware the AC cost…
- Cleaving attacks (from axes and Hydra Form) try to hit all adjacent enemies, rather than being blocked by walls. (How many people reading this actually knew that axes cleaving could be blocked by walls…?)
- Demigod tweaks: They now gain 2x stats every third level, rather than one stat on 2/3 levels. They also now have innate Sustain Abilities.
- Iron devils have been upgraded to rust devils, which do less damage but corrode with their touch.
- Derived undead (zombies, skeletons, &c) now have their full names displayed. (E.g., “orc warrior zombie”.)
- More potion tiles & randart helmet & robe tiles should now show up in-game.
- Formicids can no longer move in treeform by tunneling through rock; nor, similarly, can they shaft themselves while in treeform.
- It is no longer possible to receive the message “you meow your recitation at the orc.”
Happy crawling!

Best change since 0.9

Don’t agree with the Ring of Vitality to Amulet of Vitality. Effectively make it worthless if you ever do find it. No reason the arte can’t remain the same.

The reason for the change was technical (it’s rather difficult to have an artefact without a corresponding non-artefact base type), but I’m a little confused by the claim that the artefact is ‘worthless’ now…?

I would presume he thinks its worthless because Rmut is so damn important late game an only occurs on Amulets. Thus reducing the chance of being able to use Regen ability to randart amulets that appear with both abilities.

Ah. Well, that’s wrong, but understandable.

I partly agree with him. You can’t go beyond 3, maybe 4 runes without Rmut. Granted you can use Regen for a long time, but you’ll have to give up for any extended game (unless you’ve found an unusual amount of Cure Mutation potions). I’ve had winnable 3 rune games lost because I didn’t have Rmut or any Cure Mutation potions.

Axes no longer encourage fighting in open areas instead of passages. So it is now always better to fight in hallways again. Disappointing.

You do not even remotely “need” to have rMut to do extended, it’s merely convenient for thinking less about malmut if you don’t otherwise need the slot. And if you have rMut it’s quite easy to swap it in when it’s useful.

Personally I don’t agree with the reasons of the change: now, instead of ring swapping we have amulet swapping…except in some case it’s even more tedious: e.g. if I’ve also guardian spirit, even time I’m wounded and I want use regen I’ve also to wait mp regenerate.
The only real lock I see it’s faith.
(overall the change itself isn’t bad, considering there are much less interesting amulets that rings )

“Regeneration has been moved from rings to amulets; accordingly, the Ring of Vitality is now the Amulet of Vitality.”
Fucking stupid.

amulets must be chenged anyway. after cons amulet was removed, where is only one amulet(rMut), which realy useful.

Clarity, Guardian Spirit, Faith, Rage, and rCorr are all extremely useful. For mummies or anyone using Necromut, clarity is essential. While more amulets might be nice, saying that non-artefact, non-rMut amulets are useless is just silly.
Also, rMut is definitely not essential for extended. I have two 15-rune wins without rMut. Now, you might be able to argue that you need rMut or Cure Mutation, but 2-5 Cure Mutation potions is plenty for extended unless you have exceptionally bad luck or are careless.

Moving Regen from rings to amulets is not a critical game balance change. It is just not annoying. Strongly dislike this change.
