Well, watching people kill themselves using vampiric weapons may have been fun, but after some time, it gets boring. Thus, here’s an update of the stable release that fixes worst of the problems you reported.
Changes:
- Fix instant starvation bug related to vampiric weapon butchery.
- Fix Cheibriados excommunication permanent stat gain.
No more 72/72/72 for you. - Reenable sound for mingw builds.
- Xcode, Visual C++ and clang build fixes.
- Fix save handling on BSD systems.
- Fix some triggers being dropped when viewing other levels.
This was exploitable to get unlimited Troves or Bazaars. - Selected other bug fixes.
Enjoy!

Does this update fix the source for Hell damage?

It doesn’t. That bug is nowhere as significant as vampiric instadeaths and requires a few distruptive changes to the code so no one bothered backporting it to 0.6. This doesn’t mean it can’t be done, though.

I’m still a DCSS newbie and have yet to even get a rune. But thank you for allowing me to play a Rouge that is still actively being developed. That, as a player, is highly rewarding and appreciated.

I don’t see the update in the Downloads section… so I assume you’re talking about work in progress?

It’s online on CAO (http://crawl.akrasiac.org/), and the windows builds were last updated today, so….
Anyway, you should play on the online server!

I’m having trouble changing my Mac OSX version of the console game to the clear messages setting through init.txt . At the top of the init document it says I have to drag it on a mac computer to ~/.crawlrc in order for my new command to take effect. Where can I find that folder(?) on my mac?
Thanks!

I am missing the dos version since 0.6 …
I would play the windows console version, but it’s so smallish and the colours are ugly..
Wouldn’t it be possible to have it look like the dos version, or maybe there’s a trick I can use to make it appear as such?

makke, you run the risk of angering the gods! ;-) DOS was dropped permanently, but I managed to do my own compile of (original) 0.6.0. Yet nobody wanted it. :-(

Rugxulo: do you have fixes for the bugs in the DOS version? The code has not been removed, it’s just unmaintained with no one to fix it.
We may actually drop DOS permanently in the future, but right now it’s just a pile of bitrotten somewhat broken code that may be whipped into shape if someone steps up.
But considering the opinions towards, say, Windows 98, I don’t see anyone from the current dev team willing to do that work. If you have a set of patches, please send them in, though.

KiloByte, please e-mail me (@gmail) for further discussion.
I don’t grok C++, which is probably the main problem on my end. (You guys should’ve tested the “new” build process under DOSEMU before ever releasing 0.6.0, IMHO. Or at very least hosted my build. But you didn’t. That was no accident.)

The DOS port has been known to have grave bugs several months before 0.6 release, and no one bothered fixing them. A release where casting takes no MP would be a bad joke.
