The whole "Jiyva dying" thing is spoilery, nethackish, and adds nothing to the game. It's meaningless to a player that's planning on converting, as it's easier to reach the altar than it is to kill the royal jelly, and it's likewise meaningless to a player that's only there for the loot, as killing the royal jelly is infinitely preferable to switching gods and losing items. It's not like any normal character is ever going to weigh getting all of the loot against losing the chance to convert to Jiyva - the god's much too much of a gimmick for that. What's more, this doesn't even manage to follow its own flavor, as Jiyva dies even if the super-pious Dissolution is alive.
This mechanic is pure fluff and has no excuse to exist on any level, basically. It should be axed. |
